Obituary of Floyd James Sherrard

Floyd James Sherrard (85) passed away at his home on June 10, 2015 in St. Maries, ID. He was born to Nathaniel and Lillian Sherrard in Ferrell, ID on November 4, 1929. At the age of 5, his family moved to St. Maries where he attended the Lincoln School and Heyburn. He graduated from St. Maries High School. Following graduation, Floyd was drafted into the Army. He fought in the Korean War and served 2 years in the military. When Floyd returned home, he met Carol Werdell who happened to be a friend with one of his sisters. They married on March 22, 1954 at the Lutheran Church in St. Maries, ID. Floyd went to work for St. Maries Lumber Company. When the mill burned down, he went to work for LA Williams on 10th Street. He later went to work for Potlatch’s sawmill that stood where Fred Guenther’s shop sits today. When that mill closed down, he went to work for Scott Paper retiring in 1986. In Floyd’s retirement, he took care of the family home until his wife Carol joined him in retirement. They spent time on the Washington Coast. Floyd loved wood working making tables, clocks, Lazy Susans, and Ulu knife sets. He also enjoyed fishing (ice fishing being his passion), spending time with his grandchildren, and taking walks with his dog and grandchildren. Floyd is survived by his wife Carol at the family home, his sister Arlyss Reed of Snohomish, WA, his daughter and son in-law Carolyn and Richard Crowe of St. Maries, granddaughter and grandson in-law Anngela and Mike Appel of St. Maries, great grandson’s Tony Appel and Kyle Appel of St. Maries and Bryant and Jordan Appel of Moscow, and great-great grandson Braxton Appel of Moscow. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Bill Sherrard, Owen Sherrard, and Tom Sherrard, and sisters Merla Landa, Leila McClary, and Ines Sanders.
