Obituary of Henry Walter Sindt

Henry Walter Sindt (91) longtime St. Maries resident, died July 13, 2015 at St. Maries. Henry was born May 13, 1925 to August and Perl (Hurn) Sindt at Alsea, Oregon. He grew up in Tiernan, OR and attended schools there. Henry enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943 and served in France. He was honorably discharged in 1945 and moved to Forest Grove, OR where he learned how to fall timber. Henry married Una Brady in 1946 at Forest Grove. He worked as a sawyer for the State of Oregon. In 1955, Henry lived in Mullan, ID before moving to Bovill where he worked for a local logging contractor. He moved to St. Maries in 1956. After his arrival in St. Maries, Henry purchased a D-7 CAT and formed Sindt Logging Co. His first logging contracting job was working for Northwest Timber. Henry was divorced in 1965. He married Joyce Asbury on Feb18, 1966 at St. Maries. Henry continued to operate Sindt Logging until 1993 when he liquidated the business. His wife Joyce died in 2013. Henry was a charter member of the 1st Baptist Church of St. Maries. The Associated Logging Contractors, St. Maries Eagles Aerie # 2012 and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. Henry enjoyed fishing, hunting, being a rock hound and watching basketball games. His favorite teams were the Los Angeles Lakers and Gonzaga. Henry also enjoyed smoking fish and wild game meat. Henry is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law Fred and Karen Sindt and Ted and Jackie Sindt and stepson and wife Ron and Maggie Asbury and step-son Dave Asbury all of St. Maries. He is also survived by his daughter Viola Vosburgh of Spokane, WA. Also surviving are 11 Grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Henry was preceded in death by numerous brothers and sisters. A celebration of Henry’s life will be Saturday , July 18, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Maries Eagles Lodge with Deacon Floyd Turner officiating. A meal will be served following the service in the Eagles Reception Hall. Henry’s final resting place will be with his wife Joyce at Woodlawn Cemetery.
