Obituary

With great sadness we announce the passing of Billie Jean Spooner, a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, on June 6, 2026. Surrounded by family, she left this world from the comfort of her home.

Billie was born in St. Maries, Idaho to parents Paul and Irene Taisey, the youngest of their fourteen children. Just days after turning 18, she married Dewey Spooner in November of 1954. Eager to start a family, they welcomed their daughter in September of 1955. They had three more sons over the following years.

Billie spent most of her working years doing secretarial and bookkeeping work. She loved doing family ancestry research and was an avid reader. After retiring from Carney Pole, she and her husband enjoyed long road trip vacations, and horseback camping trips with family and friends. In her later years she enjoyed spending time at the family cabin on the St. Joe River. She could usually be found at the kitchen table, whether at the cabin or at home, doing crossword puzzles.

As her husband's health declined the last few years, she was adamant about taking care of him so he could remain at home. She was preceded in death by her husband Dewey, son Todd, and grandson Nicholas. She was also predeceased by her parents and all of her siblings: brothers Walter, Floyd, Lloyd, Vernon, Paul, Robert, Lyle, Donald, and Jack, and her sisters Margaret Taisey, Hazel Buttenhoff, Ina Swope, and Donna Bergman. Billie is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Shannon and Barry Badgett, son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Jamie Spooner, all of St. Maries, and son, Troy Spooner of Portland, Oregon. She is also survived by grandchildren Brianne (Lane) Watkins, Brandon Spooner, and Andrew Spooner, great-grandchildren Taci and Lyssa Watkins, Jaden and Hailey Spooner and their siblings, Kyle and Reese, as well as and numerous nieces and nephews.
