Obituary

Fern Larae Willey, age 69, a longtime resident of St. Maries, Idaho, passed away peacefully at her home on June 2, 2026, with her loving family by her side.

Fern was born on December 31, 1956, in Wallace, Idaho, to Billie and Bonnie Demasters. She spent her childhood in the Silver Valley, growing up in Kellogg and attending school there. During her school years, she met the love of her life, Larry Willey. Their high school romance blossomed into a lifelong partnership, and they were married on July 26, 1974.

Following their marriage, Fern and Larry made their home in Kingston, Idaho, where Fern began working at the nursing home in Kellogg. Together they built a life centered around faith, hard work, and family, welcoming three children into the world. In 1985, the family moved to Fernwood, Idaho, later spending time in Parkline before settling in St. Maries in 1990, where they would remain for many years.

Fern went to work at Valley Vista Care Center in the kitchen and, through her dedication and strong work ethic, worked her way up to Dietary Supervisor, a position she held for several years. Later, she began a career with Sears Marketing, selling appliance warranties. Commuting daily to Spokane Valley, Fern found a job she truly enjoyed. She began her career there in 2003 and remained with the company until her retirement in 2021.

Fern found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved camping, spending peaceful days fishing for trout, tending to her flower beds, and working in her yard. She was a talented crafter who enjoyed making macramé plant hangers and creating jewelry in her younger years. She was also known as a phenomenal cook whose meals brought family and friends together around the table.

Above all else, Fern's greatest love was her family. Family was the center of her world, and she poured her heart into every holiday, birthday, and gathering. She especially treasured the time spent together at the family river property, creating memories that will be cherished for generations. Her home was a place of warmth, laughter, and unconditional love, and her family always knew they came first.

Fern is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 52 years, Larry Willey of St. Maries; her children, Misty Price of Spokane Valley, Washington, Shaun Willey of St. Maries, Idaho, and Ryan Willey of St. Maries, Idaho; her siblings, Linda Aamodt of Deer Park, Washington, and Vic DeMasters of Deer Park, Washington; her beloved grandchildren, Nevaeh Willey, Kiandra Johnson, Kaiden Willey, and Maci Willey; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister Della Schultz.

Fern's loving presence, kind heart, and unwavering devotion to her family will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Though she is gone from our sight, the memories she created and the love she shared will remain forever in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

In keeping with Fern's wishes, no formal services are planned at this time. Her family will gather at a later date to celebrate her life and the many wonderful memories they shared.

The family would like to thank the many friends and loved ones who have offered their prayers, support, and kindness during this difficult time. A special thank you to Hospice of North Idaho for the care they gave Fern, they truly are angels on earth. The family suggests memorial donations to Hospice of North Idaho.
