Obituary

Steven Leen, 45, passed away on September 29, 2026, at Kootenai Health in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. He was born on March 21, 1981, in Sandpoint, Idaho, where he was raised and graduated from Sandpoint High School with the Class of 1999.

Following high school, Steven went to work for the Sandpoint Police Department, helping to keep things running as part of the department's maintenance staff. He later went to work alongside his father, Keith, as an automotive mechanic, beginning many years of the two working side by side. Keith was always proud to call Steven his "right-hand man." Whatever needed to be done, Steven was there, and the two shared countless hours working together, turning wrenches, fixing vehicles, and simply enjoying the kind of companionship that comes from a father and son who genuinely enjoy each other's company.

Steven was a talented mechanic and a natural when it came to working with his hands. Over the years, he also spent some time logging and particularly enjoyed cutting and gathering firewood. He was exceptionally skilled with a chainsaw and wasn't afraid of hard work.

That willingness to work was matched by a generous heart. Steven volunteered his time helping elderly members of his community, whether that meant taking care of maintenance around their homes, cutting and gathering firewood, or simply lending a hand wherever one was needed. Helping others came naturally to him, and he never needed much recognition for doing it.

In 2020, Steven moved to St. Maries to be closer to family. He went to work with his brother Andy, doing maintenance for Andy's Arbor as well as snow removal during the winter months. The move also opened up a whole new world of outdoor adventures for Steven. Living with his brother introduced him to dirt bikes, hunting, fishing, and side-by-side riding, and Steven quickly became an avid outdoorsman.

He loved being outside, and the weather rarely mattered. Rain, snow, sunshine, or cold, Steven was happiest when he could be outdoors working, riding, hunting, fishing, or simply enjoying North Idaho. He also enjoyed his Chevy pickups, especially working on them, and had an interest in collecting firearms.

Perhaps one of the most remarkable things about Steven was how easily he made friends. During the relatively short time he lived in St. Maries, he became a familiar face around town and got to know people throughout the local business community. He had a way of making connections wherever he went, and those who met Steven quickly discovered his kindness, willingness to help, and genuine nature.

Steven built a lot of friendships in just a few years, but more importantly, he built relationships that mattered. He was deeply loved by his family and by the many people fortunate enough to know him. His absence will be felt not only by those closest to him, but throughout the community he had come to call home.

Steven is survived by his parents, Jenny Leen and Keith Gibson of St. Maries, Idaho; siblings Andy and Kriss Gibson of St. Maries, Talmon and Lindsey Gibson of Coeur d'Alene, Aaron Leen of Sandpoint, Chris Leen of Sandpoint, Justin Gibson of Sandpoint, and Danielle Gibson of Sandpoint; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

A memorial service celebrating Steven's life will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Eagles Lodge. Following the service, family and friends are invited to remain for a gathering and meal, sharing stories, laughter, and memories of a man who could fix nearly anything, was always willing to lend a hand, and left a lasting impression on the people whose lives he touched.
